The show presents a selection of paintings from Elia’s prolific series of works exploring female power, gender identity and “femininity”, immigration, mixed ethnicities and the state of “Britannia” now.
This incredible body of work consists of large scale “realist” oil paintings that are portraits of people close to the artist, who are used not simply as subjects but to delve into the political and societal questions and observations of our time.
Four time National Portrait Gallery finalist, Wendy Elia is one of the leading contemporary history painters of our time. This show offers a rare chance to see museum quality works in the intimacy of a gallery space.
Just Saying! by Wendy Elia runs from 15th May – 1st June 2019.
